Written by Algonquin Girls’ Hockey Tops Notre Dame-Hingham in Thrilling Late Finish
ROCKLAND, MA — In a highly anticipated No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup Saturday at Rockland Arena, the Algonquin Regional High School girls’ hockey team captured a dramatic 2–1 victory over Notre Dame Academy-Hingham, earning a key South Shore win in the final week of the regular season.
With both teams ranked among the top in Massachusetts girls’ hockey, the game lived up to its billing. The Cougars of Notre Dame (Hingham) struck first on a long solo effort by sophomore Abigail Gropman, but Algonquin responded when freshman Savannah Solimeno tied the game with a bar-down goal in the second period.
The game remained deadlocked until the closing moments, when Algonquin freshman Emily Kazmierczak stunned the home crowd by netting the game-winner with just 30.6 seconds left on the clock, delivering a signature victory for the Titans.
Algonquin’s goaltender, senior Addy Cagan, was sharp throughout, finishing with 15 saves, while Notre Dame netminder Erin Kral made 26 stops in a strong performance.
With the win, Algonquin improved its record to 19–0–0, keeping alive its bid for an undefeated regular season and cementing its place as one of the state’s elite girls’ hockey programs.
The Titans will look to carry this momentum into their remaining games and postseason play, while Notre Dame (Hingham), now 12–2-3, prepares for its next challenge as playoff time nears.
